PTSD: Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a debilitating mental condition that causes enormous stress and anxiety. In women, a history of sexual abuse is commonly linked to co-existing PTSD and addiction. For men, combat is one of the most common causes of co-occurring disorders. Many veterans who suffer from PTSD or depression turn to addictive substances as a means for coping.
