The GOP is no longer Grand. The Democrats are no longer democratic. America is no longer a representative republic. There's a perfectly good blueprint for how to put things right. It's call the Constitution. I hope and pray that those currently living within these borders once again embrace it. I fear that we have to sink further before they realize what they have given up. As low as we've come, this still doesn't feel like rock bottom.

I feel the issue is that everyone wants to treat the Constitution like the Bible: it can come in many variations and can be interpreted in accordance to the person or group. IMHO, if both parties went back to the basics in everything, then we can actually start making intelligent decisions and we can start electing leaders instead of personalities

SSG Michael Hartsfield - You mean those that dump the Bible as we have dumped the Constitution? The Constitution is merely a blueprint for free, self-governing people to live together with minimal government interference. It worked until people began surrendering freedom in favor of freedom from responsibility. Are you among those? I'm not

Then why do so many people want to either bash people over the head with the Constitution or ignore it when it applies to all Americans? It either is or it isn't. No one can have it both ways

Seems like a pretty convincing opinion to me; long gone are the days of the true conservative being at home in the Republican Party. The Tea Party wasn't much better at its inception - it was still an extreme group - and I believe it sounded the bell on the traditional GOP. As soon as Ted Cruz became a major player, the tone of the party seemed to have gotten a lot nastier. This, the charade of a presidential election, is the fruit of that seed. As soon as the party started being directed by people who believe President Obama is a Kenyan Muslim, or refuse to accept science, or were so partisan as to launch and re-launch a half dozen investigations into the attack in Libya, or were more concerned with Mexicans' status as illegal than with the numbers and statistics proving they offer a net gain to our economy, that's when the wheels fell off.

Go back and watch President Reagan debate President Bush, watch their responses to social issues, education, and illegal immigration. So many in the GOP today talk about Reagan like he's their God, but he would have been booed off the stage this year and we all know it. The whole party and our political process are both in shambles.

I'd go into detail with the Democratic Party as well, but I don't have the time tonight to write the essay that would entail; I have a lot more disdain for my preferred party's failings than the crumbling of the GOP.

I agree. Much of the failing in the GOP was started with the Tea Party and when it was more politically expedient to be a brawler rather than to be a statesman began the death knell for both parties. IMHO, we have gotten to the point to where many of us vote for the personality instead of the qualification; voting with emotion instead of intellect. When we all decide that its better to have a leader rather than a personality, we will hopefully be in a better position

I'm not a Republican, but I would love to see them right their ship, so we can begin to have a healthy dialogue for what is good for the country and not this ultra partisanship that both parties are doing. It's time to govern and stop playing games.
