Thanks, Dave, for posting this. Just last night I watched a special on Teddy Roosevelt where the anti-trust issue was discussed in depth. TR was adamantly opposed to anything that stacked the deck against the average man and monopolies were just that to him - stacking the deck.
He ordered the investigations into the business practices of J.D. Rockefeller, J.P. Morgan, and others in the Railroad and meat-packing industries, breaking up monopolies and cleaning up food handling methods and safety practices against stiff opposition to his efforts by the corporate owners.
He was truly a 'Peoples' President' protecting the country from those he said, "Think they own everything, including all of the land" which he also fought hard to protect by setting aside land for preserves and creating the Forest Service to oversee its use and care.
