I have been incredibly lucky in this life. I've seen the sun rise over the Aegean, seen the Eiffel tower in moonlight, boated down the Thames and learned how to say 'where is the bathroom?' in at least a dozen languages, while politely refusing any dish with meat in it, in countries that consider dog a main dish.
As soon as we retire completely, we are planning on actually wandering around the US, instead of trying to make it from one base to another in the fastest time possible, and stopping at most every McDonald's between the two points to wear out the kids and walk the dogs.
Two wars, two kids, a collection of dogs and cats, three houses, working on our second careers, and we're ready to see something other than Houston highways, the insides of everything from 737's, 747's, Airbuses, and helicopters. We're going to hold up traffic on those highways in an RV, with small annoying dogs barking from the windows, and two old coots sitting in the front seats, ignoring the one-fingered waves and snarling curses because by G-d, we've earned the right!!
We're going to find the world's largest ball of twine, and see the dang Grand Canyon... we're going to visit my relatives on the Reservation in OK, and make the trek to Florida to visit his family, then, we're just going to sit back and annoy strangers with our constant comments about the USMC, which war was easier... and rescue animals.... that's our travel plans.

Love your plans. We are sort of retired. Each year we take time to visit a part of the US we haven't seen before. Loving it

Seen every State except Rhode Island and will visit there too. Most favorite places have been in the Desert regions and some in the mountains. Next I still have to see Greece, Spain, Vietnam, China and want to visit again Japan and Korea. Seen the rest of Europe already besides what I listed above. Have no desire to go to Africa or Australia; not sure why, but it never “called” me like all the other places have. I’ve always been fascinated with Asia, so it’s always on the top of my list. I feel like a caged animal without the PCS moves and even checked out some of the posts/bases that rent out housing to retirees now and even contemplated doing that and selling my house where I am now. It’s time to go; just have to finish the rest of my upcoming medical procedures first unfortunately.

Not this year, but next, we are loading up the kids in our RV & our goal is to hit all 50 states & DC in one year. (Flying to Hi & Ak.) We are really looking forward to it and we will be debt free by then. Our kids will be 13, 10, 8 & 2.
