What could an aircraft carrier do that a SSN/SSBN couldn't do with missiles? The size alone would limit where it could operate, subs need ocean above and below them. I could see doing away with carriers before building such a vessel. But that is from a career submarine sailor. The "Zoomies" may have an opposing view.

During WW2 The Japanese built 3 I Class Submarines, They were the largest Submarines in the World till the US Navy built a class of Submarines in the 1960ies ! Each Submarine had (3) Aircraft with a speed of 300 MPH and a Range of about 300 Miles. After the war the USSR wanted one turned over to them as a War Prize. We sunk them off the coast of Hawaii in Deep Water. Pro...... Stealth Con..........Cost Image a Stealth F-35B appearing over an enemy capital with no warning.

I'm with MCPO Roger Collins. Subs can duplicate most everything carriers do, with missiles. They have various kinds for land and air targets.
