Well, that's pretty disgusting. The former commander, had he any testicular fortitude, strike that, had he an ethical bone in his body would have pled guilty as he was responsible for the actions of the ship and crew. A ship just doesn't sail itself and sailors died under his watch. He took the job and he knew the responsibilities. And the senior officer saying so is seen as some type of command influence is a "you gotta be shittin' me" moment.
