It's possible but that would be disastrous for the region because they have built an entire economy and infrastructure around this concept. I have a feeling no this might not be because of the mutual threat of Russia and terrorism for better or worse most European countries do understand that for better or worse their fates are tied.

Sgt Wayne Wood - I disagree no country can stand alone today it's not how we designed society. Even us the United States is an alliance of 50 states and a dozen territories or protectorates. Including our foreign allies. The EU was created as mutual understanding to create economic and better military alliances between the allied nations of the EU it's very flawed I know too well but they need a joint body to coordinate defense of Europe as well for economic incentives like trade immigration like the concept of CERN would not have been possible without EU and U.N. backing. I agree with alot of your criticism the EU needs to change its ways they need to uniform their laws and national priorities if they want to survive. Even in the area of defense the EU geared their strategies to fight the cold war not non state actors like ISIS and AQ. they need to uniform their laws more and work on better coordination. As for the equality of Europe I have no idea how they fix that the EU MEMBER nations need to really sit down and figure themselves the best way they can.

Sgt Wayne Wood - No I'm not the EU was meant to further build upon the NATO alliance to allow for economic relations but has some similar military responsibilities as well to give more or less a more Unified voice at the UN

I musta missed that memo... nothing i’ve read has ever indicated the EU being anything other than an economic & trade entity.
Just as NAFTA gives us trade & economic obligations with Canada & Mexico but says nothing about defense.

Ya, I vaguely recall all the gloom and doom when the EU was first created. Think reality is starting to set in.
