I had a PM office for a year in a NETOPS troop. I spent a lot of time in MS Project developing plans in an ADHD environment and I got so sick of the process to the point that when the topic came up of dissolving the PM office to recoup the manpower for other endeavors, I was all for it.
It is fine for long term projects with limited budgets and manpower but when the projects are small in scope and the project work is performed by those used to that sort of work then PM gets in the way.
The critical path method is interesting but if you spend to much time on it then it can become paralysis by analysis. I found that the estimates were always off in reality. Have any other PMs actually been accurate in planning the durations from the WBS?

I follow, many thanks, by PM I'm assuming you mean proj mgmt in some fashion, likely software tools. I hadn't looked at the whole topic for yrs. wBS I don't know unfortunately as an acronym if you can elaborate, I'll try to find it meanwhile. ADHD I didn't entirely follow, I of course thought of ATTN deficit, lol, though I obv didn't think you meant that and were perhaps being satiric or humorous I gathered possibly, lol. I'll of course try to see if any other similar software tools exist for such quant proj mgmt, very interesting question, if you could possibly elaborate further at all that'd help I think, please feel free to send more anytime, I'd be most eager to hear more whenever convenient, many thanks.

You might try these open source project mgmt packages on sourceforge to start with, if I find anything else I'll try sending that also, I also thought to add quant technqs, I'll send that in cpl mins, many thanks.

Here's the next set, hope all that was of at least some use, I'd be most eager to know your thoughts, many thanks, one again.

ADHD was meant for attn deficit. I was in a SOF unit. WBS is work breakdown structure.
Analyzing the Critical Path is part of the Project Management Institute's Body of Knowledge. I did formal PMP training.
Microsoft Project is a tool for collaborative Project Management. It is definitely something to study if doing PM full time. If you have never done formal PMP training, I definitely recommend it. Even just Project+ will be value added to anyone who does project management. There are classes on SkillPort (via AKO, My Training) for all this.

I was really taken aback when I'd first heard of it in army ROTC, one of the facility had an interest in such topics for quantitative management, which was a reqd topic, many thanks.
