Dark Patterns: When Companies Use Design to Manipulate You

Thank you, my friend SSgt (Join to see). To be honest, I think for as long as things have been "made" the designers used design to influence, control or manipulate.
Advertising is a multi-billion dollar per year enterprise after all. There is a lot of effort spent in identifying what appeals to various demographics as well as what disgusts or scares those groups. :-)
I have security software which blocks my usage from the "net."
The advent of smart phones presented advertisers and statisticians with a goldmine of data on what people do with technology and what they like and dislike.
