This barrier is the hardest to overcome and most of the time is self-inflicted.............The fact is that is the Military wanted to vet the FICO scores of everyone and use it as a Litmus Test for involuntary seperation they could cherry pick to their heart's delight. Regretfully, the issue of Personal Finance is not held too high in regards to determine capabilities in uniform.

Really posted because I had a service member denied a clearance because of credit issues. No clearance for some can mean no service.

Once I retired, I initiated a Chapter 13. Should have done it years before but was scared shitless of losing my Clearance. It can be a show-stopper for sure.

MSG Pat Colby you are spot on, after discussing the issue with our intel folks it is happening more and more that clearances are being denied. Huge issue for serving personnel, but the show-stopper as you say can also be for someone that is transitioning and still has support their family.
