What would possess a CO to file a false report to 3rd fleet? There has to be more to this story PO1 Tony Holland. What was to be gained by not reporting the mechanical failure and it's repair? The part that failed was not his fault, and once repaired they got back underway! Some part of this story is missing...! Perhaps a maintenance PMS was not done as it should have and he gun decked the PMS as completed when it wasn't? Or was he trying to cover up an error by the crew? Or was he covering for the Cheng? Ships break down at sea all the time...why cover it up???? What is your take on this LT Brad McInnis ?

CWO3 Dennis M. I doubt it was a gun deck PMS check. You wouldn't know that until after the repairs were underway ( I used to look at recent PMS checks after an incident - not for gun decking purpose more for t/s ideas).
This incident is a somewhat common occurrence, especially in the older Flight I DDG's. They slap a lot of new electronics on these engines, and a lot of times it isn't synched with reality. Still now a reason to lie about a posit. I had it twice, once as an engineering DIVO, once as CHENG.
Still, there has to be something else going on because he immediately told his sailors to lie about their position, before they even knew what was going on. Won't go over immediate actions on a public forum, but it still wouldn't take long to figure out how long the repairs were going to take...
Again, he lied and told his sailors to lie about a FRICKING POSIT REPORT!!!!! WTH!!?!?!?

Several folx posted this. Absolute idiot. You CASREP the screw, and report the situation. That machinery breaks is not the CO's fault. THIS IS!
Not a big deal.. I’m sure he’s the only CO in the Navy doing stuff like this. Heck, it was probably the only time he ever did it. I’m just glad that they got that one bad apple out of the batch.
