As for those of us who have served we should recognize and respect an individual for the person whom he or she is regardless of the color of their skin. I learned that the military can be a great teacher of that. Although there are still many in this country who would like to stick to the old way of things like in the 30, 40, 50, and 60’s with racist hatred rhetoric. I am here to tell you it’s never going back to those days so they may as well get their heads out and move forward or get out of the way. I remember a story from my great uncle long ago after returning home from WW2. He couldn’t drink at the same fountain or use the same restroom as caucasians. Even in uniform he was forced to ride in the back of the bus. Just from his story alone, if I ride a bus I won’t dare sit in the back! Yes things have changed and we have come a long way as a country. However we have far to go in order to bury and reject the hatred racial rhetoric that only divides us as a nation. A person is a human being and should be treated with dignity and respect regardless of the pigmentation of their skin. Racist people spewing out hatred from my own opinion are ignorant losers regardless of their pigmentation color!
Peace!
