My art teacher once told me that you can make money being an artist...if you are less than about 5 years ahead of your time and churn out the stuff at a high rate. If you are 50 years ahead of your time, though, you should expect to starve. But the NEA isn't even mostly about art. It's mostly about graft.

Given the high interest in the arts, it would seem like the Artists that have made it and are among the elites would fund these programs through charitable contributions, rather than use the tax dollars of the few that actually pay their taxes for such programs.

Graft is the only staple you'll find in the troughs in the District of Calamity. Limiting government is the only known method of limiting graft.
