This is not something to get Republican buy-in. This is something targeted at the ultra-wealthy - but almost entirely at the ultra-wealthy in blue states. It is a way to make red state taxpayers subsidize blue states. Which, as a matter of practical politics, is not a way to get Republican buy-in.


Plus, it has the added con of just being a bad idea.

Here is a rebuttal article about SALT. It is not new and has been around since 1913. It is not about a tax cut for the rich, but about how to balance federal deductions with states that have high taxes
