This is not something I have ever thought about and i'm unsure how I feel about it now. The DOJ does have a good point about not hiring legal "green card" holders. My concern (which is also stated in article) is the money and time spend training someone who may or may no be legal in a few years and also the problems with a good background check. What are your thought?

Can't find a reason to prosecute HRC, but they can find a reason to prosecute/fine Sheriff Office for ONLY hiring CITIZENS? Does DOJ have a lot of "Green Card Holders" in their employ? Is that who they want investigating SBI clearances?
WTF! Have we become so "PC" that we can NOT allow common sense? The "Green Card Holder" may be eligible AFTER they obtain citizenship. Why risk losing officers (or use the excuse that they must remain illegally) due to lack of citizenship? This is stupid.

Well to be fair, you don't have to be a citizen to be in the US Military - right? So why do cops feel they're special?

PO3 Donald Murphy A person with a Green Card is only able to work in the US for up to 9 months at a time....then they have to go home and reapply or get married to a US citizen to stay....How does it make sense for the Sheriffs office ...who needs LONG TERM employee's to hire people with Green Cards, spend a lot of time and money to train them, just to turn around and loose them and forcing them to have to find someone to replace them and train them and spend more money?

My wife has a green card. Not all green cards are temp. My wife's is "permanent" as long as she pays the renewal fee every so many years...

PO3 Donald Murphy - I've done mortgage loans for PERMANENT RESIDENT ALIENS....I cannot do a mortgage loan for someone with JUST a Green Card....so there is a difference.
