We had the thread about orders and not following illegal orders. This is an example of what not to do. The courts will not entertain this complaint. If your commander tells you to gun down innocent civilians- that is an order you can't follow.

LTC Peter Hartman, if your commander told you to capture the military attache at a Russian consulate, wouldn't that also be an illegal order you should not obey?

1LT William Clardy - fun fact - James Blunt (yes, the singer) was a British officer during the NATO mission in Kosovo. GEN Wesley Clark ordered Blunt's troop to take Pristina Airport from the Russians, who had occupied it, but Blunt refused the order for obvious reasons. Not an illegal order per se, but a very interesting situation. I believe nothing ever happened to Blunt because he had the support of the British commanders.

Actually, 1LT(P) (Join to see), that may well have been an illegal order if it would have exceeded the peace-keeping force's authority under whatever U.N. resolution was most applicable.
