I am adamantly opposed to illegal immigration but as a teacher I will teach every kid in my classroom. However they came to arrive there. I fail to comprehend any system turning away kids because of the color of their skin.

It is not directly turning away kids because of race / ethnic background. It is more of rich school districts (with majority white students) not wanting to expand to accept poorer (often disadvantaged minority) kids in nearby neighborhoods.

LTC Eugene Chu I can see that. I also know the negative impact of unprepared students in a classroom. I can see both sides I guess.

Racial segregation in US schools exists today, but for different reasons...

Previous times involved racially discriminatory policies (e.g. Jim Crow, etc.) by local government. Current times typically involve socioeconomic insularity. While there is no law specifically separating students by race/ethnic background, there is a divide between rich and poor school districts. Affluent parents (usually white/Caucasian) often argue against expansion plans that would allow poorer children (often minorities) to attend the same schools as their privileged children.
