30 years ago, to stop a "silkworm" missile from reaching USS Missouri, the Phalanx CIWS system on a Guided Missile Frigate USS Jarrett FFG-33, operating in the automatic target-acquisition mode, fixed on Missouri's chaff, releasing a burst of rounds. From this burst, four rounds hit Missouri which was 2–3 miles from Jarrett at the time. There were no injuries. A British Sea Dart missile was fired by the Royal Navy vessel HMS Gloucester destroyed the Iraqi "Silkworm" missile headed for USS Missouri.
