Back in the 1950s, this original pipeline that goes from Alberta through British Columbia to the Pacific Ocean was built without any problems. Now they want to Triple the capacity of the pipeline and environmentalists, First Nations and now the Appellate Court of Canada has killed the project for the next five to ten years until it goes to the Canadian Supreme Court. The Canadian government has already put down 4.5 billion dollars which they cannot get back. This is an embarrassment for prime minister of Canada, the province of Alberta and it's Alberta Government. It is a short-term victory for the green party and zealots of British Columbia and the First Nations people who don't want any of the royalties. They claim increased tanker traffic will kill the livelihood of the whales that they hunt on occasion and they are complaining of the high chances of tanker spills. In the meantime, 200,000 barrels a day of oil gets shipped to United States by rail.
Thousands of jobs are at stake and putting oil on tank cars increases the risk for fold of a spill. Oil that is selling for $67 a barrel on the market has to be discounted for about $37 a barrel to make it economical to put on trains. Trains put out a lot of CO2 and they are inefficient. This" not in my backyard" syndrome is kind of funny because only one port allows oil exports and if the local government had their way, no or would be exported at all.
This is what happens when you have the green party extreme socialist and others empower the anti-oil groups. What is funny, is the Socialist Premier or governor of Alberta is for oil exports and prime minister Justin Trudeau is as well. so even with no pipelines going north and south there is still about 200,000 barrels of oil a day that comes to the United States from Canada. It comes by Rail and nothing can stop it except for a derailment. I wonder if OPEC, Russia and other entities fund the Green Party to force the US/Canada to by from oil producers who have no environmental stewardship. This also sends money outside Canada the United States to fund countries that do not Foster democracy either. What a paradox!
