It certainly wasn't covered nationally. Certainly was covered locally. Doesn't fit the narrative, so of course it was minimized. I will say, as more info comes out, it looks like the kid was getting his butt kicked (and it had happened a few times) and he pulled out a gun to stop the beating.

I’m from the DFW area and media did not “bury a mass shooting”. It was a heavily covered local story with in media. While I am speculating, we have multiple mass shootings to the point of becoming numb

I'm not sure about where you live, but I don't recall seeing any local or national news stating "black former student commits mass shooting".
I have seen plenty of news reports stating "white xxxxx commits mass shooting"

In other words, if the suspect is white, the race is mentioned, particularly if the victim is black or a minority. If the news media can hang a tag such as supremacist or Trump supporter, it is almost guaranteed to go national news and hang around for days to weeks.
