MSG,
This is great, PTSD needs more attention nationally. It's such a difficult dilemma to deal with and has a huge affect on not only the sufferer but the people who surround them.

Sir, you are absolutely correct and because the people that surrounds them don't understand and have no formal education on how to recognize the symptoms that their love ones shows that just give up and leave the hostile environment that's within their own homes.

The Veteran blocks the pain or memories without dealing with it that he/she is now a Universal Soldier walking around like a hidden ticking time bomb just dormant until something triggers that repressed memory and they lose it.  I also belief that we should also be trained to recognize symptoms so that we can help our brothers and sisters in arms sooner.

Thanks for sharing, MSG P. I did not know that we had a PTSD Awareness Day.

As one who has recently come to terms with symptoms of PTSD, it has become a real challenge to acknowledge after years of "sucking-it-up." I did not want to admit that I had any problems but it was eating me up inside and I realized that filing for VA disability is a right that we have earned and we deserve to be compensated for all the things that we have endured living the uniformed life.

The increasing number of cases coming out says a lot because I believe the majority have come from a background where we were taught to "suck-it-up" and "make the most or the best of it."

A recent incident flared up symptoms of PTSD that immobilized me for 3 days. Often, I do not think that people are aware how serious this condition might be when not dealt with.

The more and more we learn and educate ourselves on how we can deal with this issue, the more we can be useful to help another fellow veteran or service-member get through it.

I agree Marylin, this could help raise awareness. It could also help those who suffer with PTSD if the public were more aware. Good luck to you. I will say a pray for you and all those who suffer with trying to overcome PTSD and the stress of combat.

Thank you for sharing this I will spread the word. I did not realize there was an awareness day, but I am glad there is. Too many do not know how much our service men and women and their families suffer from this disorder.

I did not know there was an awareness day either until a friend recently shared her story as she now is running for the Miss. Plus America pageant and her mission is to tell everybody that will listen how she refuses to let the demons of war and the combat zone still her joy and being with her family today in the present as well as the future.  Leaving the past behind her but not forgetting what happen to her!!

Wow, that is awesome. She is an inspiration to all those who struggle. Do you have her name, I would like to follow this. Her story could help a lot of people who do not know.
