I totally disagree with the author. If you choose to live outside of the U.S., you lose those extra perks. The author lives in Thailand which in the larger coastal cities has the best bang for your buck for healthcare in the world. There is an entire part of their tourism dedicated to medical and dental travel.

A veteran will still receive care paid for due to service connected disabilities and if a retiree can use Tricare, but otherwise you can figure it out unless you live in Manila.

Yes I chose to live overseas, with my Australian husband, does that mean I shouldn’t get the same care and consideration as a state side vet. 8 months ago I paid to have my own service connected disability amputated. Not by choice but because there were no more options to fix it. To date I am waiting on reimbursement of 510000.00 Australian dollars. We had to take out loans to have this life saving operation. I got the first payment last week. It was a check from the us treasury in US dollars. It will take that check at least 6 weeks maybe 8 to clear. When it does then I find out how much I have to eat because of the exchange rate. Is this fair treatment of a vet?
