Pick an MOS or NEC and we (veteran or SM) could decipher it, put that on your resume and that hiring manager will look at for 3 seconds and put it on the do not forward pile. Learning to demilitarize your skills and experience so they speak to the hiring managers can get complicated. But there are FREE tools to assist you with this, as well as paid resume services to assist you if you want to use them.
Drafting that resume is just a part of the transition process, the right jargon can get you to the next step in the hiring process.

Absolutely I did.
After about a gazillion "we appreciate your service and your application, but unfortunately we have determined you are not qualified for this position at this time"...I got smarter.
Officer of the Deck, Underway became..."Managed personnel tasked with maintaining safe operating conditions and meeting logistics schedule"
Qualified Shipboard Force Protection Team Leader became..."Supervised and trained personnel responsible for maintaining security of work environment"
Foreign Military Adviser became..."Worked closely with international organizations in a multi-cultural environment towards increased productivity while working with limited resources overseas"
