Working as a route clearance PSG it got to the point that if there was an attack by IED on the team everyone went to Charlie MED for the MACE test.
The drawback to that is they never changed the 5 words on the MACE test.
When I was MEDEVACED from Iraq all the way to FT Lewis-McChord every time I was asked to take the MACE test I would run off the 5 words they used on their test. Then I would explain about being asked so many times that I had finally remembered them.
The way they conducted the test in Iraq let a LOT of Soldiers fall through the cracks and go back to work with concussions. Along with the VA's denial of TBI makes some of these diagnoses criminal.
My 10% TBI rating was dropped to 0% so I could get a 100% PTSD rating. According to the VA you can not have there are too many symptoms that cross over.
We received letters stating that we were a route clearance company and had x many concussive blasts within x many meters of our vehicles.
IMHO the VA system will not really recognize TBI until service members start getting diagnosed with CTE's.

interesting Information and Good Points made ... this almost looks like it would be coming from the Duffel Blog...
..."...So yes, Mother Army, this data wasn’t exactly what you wanted, but it is informative and the device works. Yes, Uncle Sam, this information might result in more VA claims as more people are diagnosed. But it would also result in earlier detection of traumatic brain injury regardless of cause to reduce cases of permanent disability and establish standards for measurement, disability, and long-term care...."...
