The "My Hard Drive Died" podcaster has recommended Hitachi (HGST) for years. These graphs support that. Always best to have at least 2 full backups.

SGT (Join to see) I am happy to see that I have been making good recommendations to people. I tell them to go with HSGT first and Western Digital second. What is funny, is that they are now the same company!

On a side note, HGST was formed by the merger of Hitachi and IBM's hard drive business, hence the use of the Deskstar name. I resisted them at first because the initial batch of IBM's Deskstars in the early 200's were notoriously unreliable. So unreliable in fact, that we called them "Deathstars" after their notorious "click of death" you would hear when they failed.

Yes!!!!! Samsung spinning disk never really die, they just slow down to the point of being useless. Former IBM / Hitachi death stars are crap. WD Black is the best spinning disk. Solid state drives are hear an now, they are the best. Kingston, Intel, etc. They all are amazing. The Gum Stick drives are the future.

(Join to see) Very interesting article. I had always used Western Digital myself, but I started drifting towards HGST in the last 4 years or so. Which is funny, because HGST has been owned by Western Digital since 2012!
