I patronize local small businesses over big chains. I don't care who owns them...They are in my community trying to make a go of it and will try them at least once...If I am treated like a good respectable customer I will go back. YOu want the real unvarnished truth...The only business I don't patronize are those that I know are owned by Muslims. That goes back to my mental health issues from things that happened on deployments that I have a hard time getting over. ..and that's about all I have to say about that. Anyone else I have no issues if their prices are competitive and they treat me with respect as a customer.

We favor patronizing local stores in the town, the county and then the region as we live near a county line. We try not to do franchises and try our damndest to keep our dollars local

It is pandering. And I don't like panderers.
And, for the record, I have the same feeling about "female-owned" and "veteran-owned."

Coming back to this, how and why do you see the simple act of a company stating they're Black-owned as pandering?

There are 4 ways to draw market share.
1) offer a superior product (customer service is a product!)
2) offer lower prices
3) convenience (be closer, clean bathrooms, be open later, etc.)
4) pander to a sense of social guilt.
Advertising ownership is an attempt to draw customers by letting them feel good about themselves for supporting community X without having to actually DO anything.
I will still shop X-owned businesses, but they better be able to fill 1, 2, 3, or 5) offer a unique product (since it is unique, it does not fall under market share). All things being equal, I will not shop a place that advertises X-owned.
