You have to believe that both Trump and Perry were fully aware of the irony when they had their discussions on this appointment. Too funny and I'll bet they laughed at it. I think Perry is a good pick for the job. The real question, though, is what Trump's vision is for the DOE ... and whether Perry is simply a caretaker appointee until the DOE can be shut down, rolled back, or rolled into another department.

Difficult to role up Nuclear warheads into another agency, there is a reason they are kept separate from DOD.

MAJ (Join to see) - This. I think a lot people think that the DoE is just about regulating power lines and utility companies, but there is a whole lot more that goes into it. The DoE is responsible for the nation's nuclear weapons program, nuclear reactor production for the United States Navy, and radioactive waste disposal among other things. The latter is specifically important when it comes to Perry since he has taken donor money from companies that specialize in nuclear waste disposal and he privatized the state-controlled nuclear waste program for his friend and donor. Huge conflict of interest, in my opinion.

Perry Donor's Radioactive Waste Site Deal Scrutinized
In his career as governor of Texas, Rick Perry has raised about half his campaign cash from just 204 big donors. One of them, Harold Simmons, has given Perry roughly $3 million of support. And in recent years, Simmons' company has gotten a license to operate a radioactive waste site, despite environmental concerns.
