The Dow Jones Industrial Average has cracked a new milestone: 22,000.
In early trading on Wednesday, the Dow was up as many as 42 points to trade above 22,000 for the first time.
The blue chip index was rallying on the back of Apple (AAPL), which was up as much as 6% in early trade after reporting better-than-expected earnings on Tuesday after the bell.
Because the Dow is a price-weighted index — meaning it gives weight to members based on the price of its shares, not is market cap — Apple’s surge on Wednesday morning was adding about 60 points to the Dow.
