Another important topic that needs to be discussed is the roots of extremism. A lot of it lies in Saudi Arabia, which is one reason I believe America and Europe needs to strive hard for energy security, and grow independent of the Gulf countries. It's hypocrisy on our part.

MAJ James Woods you have a huge point as well. Especially in countries like Iraq and Syria. Islamic literacy is at a huge low-point, which is ironic considering the level of knowledge and scholarship 1000 years ago in these same regions.
Shias in Iraq, according to multiple reports including primary sources I've heard myself, have been giving out books (prob printed in Iran) trying to spread Shiism and incite sectarianism since at least the 1990s. If you give Shiism a deep study, you'll find it's truly just a web of lies meant to eject Muslims from the main body and use them for political reasons, where anything their "ayatollah" (which means "ayah of Allah," BTW, or "sign of God," so stop calling them that, everybody ;) ) says goes.
Other issues abound, like various economic issues and parents setting dowries (mahr) so high that it's hard for men to get married. Mistreated foreign workers is another recruiting disaster for terrorists. Anger and hatred over political frustrations, being ruled by dictators and brutal oppression of protestors is another factor. Islam itself really has quite little to do with it most of the time, it's usually a combination of various factors hitting them at the right time (or the wrong time, really).
This is an interesting article on this point: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/isis-foreign-fighters-british-european-western-dying-radicalised-islam-not-strongest-factor-cultural-a7421711.html

SPC Greg Carr - Agreed. Our relationship with Saudi Arabia makes us hypocritical of our labeling of Iran, Syria, Afghanistan, and Yemen as the only places that support terror networks.
