I have tinkered w/ the idea of getting a small drone myself, but I always come back to the same restriction, my house is in the busiest flight path for the hospital helicopters here in town. I'd rather not risk that bad karma!

Get a short range drone. I've got one, only goes about 50 ft up and can fly about 100 yds before it reaches its tether point. The bonus, it's a "fighter" drone... the thing is meant to be flown at speed, and does aerial acrobatics... you basically need a good bit of open space to really use it as it's intended to be used, because it zips around once you put it in gear. But it's damned fun to fly, and its natural transceiver leash keeps it from getting you in trouble.

These things need to be serialized and tracked. If something happens then the owner should be charged either financially for damage or criminally for manslaughter or worse should it come to that.

Looking at the pictures of the damage this crew is lucky it didn't take a different bounce and fod out an engine or cause a rotor blade to disbond and break apart.
