For the record these types of jobs have always been in demand, but the training is longer than most trade programs and more intense which in turn scares a lot of people away. On the plus side, many companies are seeking vets with military experience with electronics, or anything electrical/mechanical. Additionally, if your job in the military wasn't tech related you could enroll in a 1 year apprenticeship program that leads to a journeyman license. I thought about doing it but after 12 years of working in engineering I realized I'm too stupid to do anything electrical and I would probably cause an electrical fire to burn the place down.
