Because those who cannot find solace when we are stressed or upset, we find that eating food releases endrophins that make us feel happy. Those who cannot lash out or take control of a situation, they can turn to food. Some develop a physiological disorder because they can't "survive" without engorging on food (leading to physical health issues and excessive weight gain).
Also those who are getting off a drug (in an example, nicotine)....your tastebuds become reactive again, making you taste your food better. You taste food better, the more you want. It's replacing an addiction with another and it can get out of hand.

Excellent way of putting it! Food is always available which makes it harder for us to control. Thanks for your response!

That's why it makes it harder for us psychologically. It brings back that homeliness. Thanks for the comment!

Even more dangerous because we consume it every day without knowing the harm we might be doing to ourselves if we're not using moderation or making unhealthy choices.
