A well-written and thoughtful article on changing the approach in Somalia. Professor Williams makes the case for negotiated peace agreements to break the current stalemate, but does not support his thesis that costs and risks are rising. I personally have no confidence that the ever-changing warlord leaders (regional governments) would abide by a signed peace agreement the previous leader signed up to.

Very interesting commentary. I'm concerned that without a US military presence in that part of Africa we will see more regional instability. We need to have a national discussion on what are our national interests and how to best protect them.

Strongly agree that options like treaties as used in Europe for centuries...just might not work in some places of today's world.

As Sean McFate describes, Somalia looks more like a renaissance era Italy with feudal city states than a Westphalian Nation State.
