Equifax Put a Music Major In Charge of Security Before Breach on 143 Million Americans

I've read that they had a very weak user name and password (ADMIN). The execs allegedly unloaded stock before releasing news of the breach. Finally, their offer for a year of free credit monitoring had a clause in TOS that prevented users from entering into any class action suit. Once this was discovered they altered their policy. How many more ways can someone screw things up before, during, and after an event such as this? They need to start prosecuting these white collar criminals and maybe they will stop pulling stunts like this.

Don't want to seem argumentative here and certainly am not disagreeing with the incredulity we all have concerning the situation. I would state that after over 50 years of leadership experience in IT and IT related fields inside and outside of the military I have found that Liberal Arts Majors are successfully competing in all manner of IT roles. Their creativity, thought processes, and often unique approaches to solutions are sometimes huge contributors to success. In this case, if comments here are true, the company had a meltdown in leadership and it has been occurring for some time. Many of us old timers can certainly vouch that the worst security offenders are often the very officers that we rely on to lead and guide us. Bear in mind I have not participated in the huge wars that have gone on since 2001 so my perspective may not be accurate. I draw a lot of my opinion from the meltdown in our National Command Authority over the past 10 years concerning the handling of email and private servers. With or without naming names or blaming individuals, when a leader decides to short circuit or forgo altogether established processes and procedures for the sake of convenience. Once the security has been broken...they are screwed. I would be reluctant to lay this at her feet because she was a music major but would definitely agree her lack of leadership must be a major factor. Sorry for the Rant
