So we don’t have a parade and feed every homeless vet for 2 weeks and then what? Cut funding to illegals and refugee programs and take care of our own people first. I am for helping americans First. ALL Americans no matter their sex, race, religion, gay or straight. To me all americans are more important than any refugees or people here illegally. We need to fix our own poverty issues before we help other country’s poor people.

MSG Joseph Cristofaro - Your comments are misleading. Your source shows those amounts with the "lion's share" going for public education, some "imprisoning convicts", some for medical care. The "welfare" numbers are not for "illegals. That is for US citizens, born in the US.
That, my friend, is from your own source.

MSG Joseph Cristofaro - My post was in response to the OP posting: Cut funding to illegals. I don't see anything in your sources about funding "to illegals."

You know, we could feed and house every homeless veteran if we took care of them first instead of those who are in this country illegally. Yes, I am being "non-politically correct" but frankly this Newsweek editorial and opinion piece is another example of liberal hierocracy. They really do not want America to show the world we are a great nation with military parades to honor our veterans and well as those currently servicing. SO BRING ON THE CHEERING CROWDS and let's have a parade..

I think that most of the people who would be IN the parade... wouldn't WANT to be in the parade. If we're going to have a parade to honor vets and the military, let's have it consist of Vets and Servicemembers who volunteer to be there. Let's not take away still more time from families to put on a dog and pony show.

Most major American cities already have free volunteer run parades on Veterans Day. We do not need to waste taxpayer money on something that we already do.

1. The units going OCONUS for training exercises and those for a national parade are comparing apples to oranges. One is for building combat readiness, the other is out of political want.

2. There probably would be debate if a division commander wanted a parade. Part of the concerns for the DC parade were not only political issues, but potential damage to local infrastructure. The 82nd Airborne Division commander answers to the 18th Airborne Corps commander and there would be questions about need along with logistics. A three-star general would likely ask a two-star general about why the entire division would need to conduct a parade and any impact on necessary operations at Fort Bragg.

Give a vet food, and you feed him once. Give a vet a parade and he'll be so imbued with a pride that he had forgotten that he will turn himself around, pick himself up by his bootstraps, and make himself great again!

We already have volunteer run parades in multiple American cities during Veterans Day. We still also have some homeless veterans still struggling. A mandatory taxpayer parade will not help the issue.
