If they took one-tenth of the money that has been wasted by the government and dumped it into fusion research and securing sources of yttrium (needed for hi-temp super-conducting magnets used in fusion) we would be a lot further down the road on something that will revolutionize energy production, doesn't produce greenhouse gases nor has a radioactive by-product.
As it says in the article, "Ultimately, disagreement about climate change is not about data but about values". I agree. Some will place disproportionately high value on net-zero at the expense of everything else. Others will place a disproportionately high value on cost at the expense of everything else. There has to be a sensible middle-ground where those and other factors can co-exist.
