I see this as a bad omen for the healthcare industry. I also see providers leaving the industry out of fear they will be the next person facing criminal prosecution.
Ms Vaught deserves to have her license suspended or revoked. She should have verified the medication was the correct one before administration. Criminal prosecution and conviction seems a bit heavy handed to me.

The medcen administration got a "tsk-tsk" from CMS. 2 physicians put misleading info on the death certificate. No consequences for them. It's election season & the DA is up for re-election and this brought him a ton of publicity.

She definitely should have verified it; that's an integral part of her job. However, the majority of nurses I know are severely overworked and the hospitals are understaffed. So I agree with you, this is definitely excessive.
