I've been out of the Army for years, but I'll butt in here and yap anyway: Israel is the most reliable US ally in the Middle East. (Why do you specifically reference 1967? Is it because of the Six-Day War in general, or does it have anything to do with the USS Liberty? If the latter, then I don't know exactly what happened with the Liberty and don't find any of the explanations satisfactory, but Israel is our closest ally in the region and many Israeli military personnel have U.S. citizenship.)
With regard to the Israel-bashing that's popular right now, I don't think it's entirely Islamists. The political Left, especially in Europe, tends toward opposition to Israeli policies.
Israel's enemies tend to be our enemies. The Arab nations of Egypt, Syria, and Iraq were friendly to varying degrees with the Soviets (the Syrians most of all, I suppose). Some of the terror groups in the 1970s such as the PLO and the PFLP were secular, socialist groups that I suppose probably were receiving aid from the USSR and some of its Warsaw Pact minions. The rise of Hamas and Hezbollah as more religiously-oriented terrorist groups brings in America's enemy Iran. Hezbollah might be the most sophisticated enemy in "Hybrid Warfare." At the same time, ISIS and al Qaeda are also enemies of Israel, so the whole gamut of violently anti-American entities in the Middle East are also anti-Israel. So, an enemy of my enemy, especially when he has fair chance of holding a US Passport or being related to someone who does, is a friend of mine.

Israel is one of our greatest allies. We need to stop treating them with a red-headed stepchild.

I think the US attitude toward Israel is off the mark. I was pleased to see Trump's appointment of Nicky Haley to the UN slot and her push back on the anti Israeli behavior there. I hope that positive behavior doesn't change in this administration.
