I believe we invaded Iran during World War II and they did not fare very well then either. I actually read this article before. The Mullahs do not trust the Army and Army leaders do not trust the Mullahs. The Mullahs invented the Revoloutonary Guard Corps to protect the regime at all costs and one of the primary reasons was they were always suspicious the Army might try a coup based on Irans repeated military interventions in the past with regimes the military did not like.
