I don't think it's a bad idea. When I enlisted everything was sewn on to the uniform. I arrived at my first duty station, supply issued patches, alterations sewed then on, and I never thought about it again. After my twelve year break, properly situating Velcro unit patches, is a skill I and those new soldiers have to learn. Better they learn in basic where soldiers are supposed to learn basic soldier skills.

Interesting. Dont really care though. All the people talking about the "softness" of the army need to pull their heads out their ass, this is just some other stupid thing for people to get all worked up about, complaining that new soldiers are soft . . . . Do you really thing pvt joe snuffy had any part in that decision? Do you really think some noname basic training enlistee came up with all the stuff the people in the comments are complaining about? No man, its the command, the people who graduated "back in the day" who are making these policies. As for myself, basic training exists to teach you basic warrior tasks and battle drills. As long as they accomplish that, I dont give a rats ass what all the trappings and pruveleges or dumb cerimonies are.

No, I don't believe they did. I have never in my life heard the term "Private Good Idea Fairy."

Basic trainees are now having a ceremony and getting a patch for completing the Red (1st) phase of Basic Training.

SSG Derek Scheller - interesting, when I went through they just recycled troops back to the beginning of the phase if they didn't pass.

SSG Keith Evans - Oh we passed they just had attitude problems. So we never got the "benefits" of higher phases
