Just did a presentation on caregivers to DAV managers. Maybe VA needs to reach out that way

I think a lot of folks are frustrated with the annual requirements of the program, and just think the benefits should continue. The thing is, many Veterans in this circumstance deteriorate in their condition and/or exhaust the ability of the caregiver to continue, placing the Veteran in a managed care center and out of this program.

I'll be the first to admit I know less about this program than I should. That's probably not a great sign if they're hoping to get more enrollment from the post 9/11 generation.

The program is meant as an alternative to Veteran's homes that often have waiting lists. Absent new construction, this program was viewed as a viable alternative for Veterans that prefer to stay in their own place and have assistance from a family member or other provider. Most recipients are elders, although some are more grievously wounded veterans from recent wars.

1SG (Join to see) - I bet if more people who are already acting as caregivers knew about the benefits, they'd likely have more enrollment. IMO, the disconnect is that a lot of civilians probably don't know about what's available to them because as a civilian, they're looking at the VA for assistance for their vet, rather than themselves.

The Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers | Veterans Affairs
Our VA caregiver program offers a VA caregiver stipend and other support to family caregivers of post-9/11 Veterans with serious injuries. If you're caring for a Veteran, find out if you're eligible and how to apply for this VA caregiver pay and other benefits.

SSG Carlos Madden - This is exactly what I think as well. They will apply for Aid & Attendance for the Vet, and remain unaware of this program.
