Uniforms are also worn by other services and DoD civilian w/o ranking. I don't see in the brief article a comparison to prior sizing in ACU or DCU. Bottom line is uniforms must fit a range of people.

Why not just force the over weight service members to lose weight? Has the height and weight standard changed since I've retired?

SSG Audwin Scott That is what AWCP is for. To provide the Soldier with guidance and the tools necessary to achieve their expected weight. AWCP also protects the soldier as well as sets an expectation. The guidelines are very straightforward and the steps and procedures are outlined so that it cannot be used in a way to railroad soldiers out of the military for personal dislike reasons and yet it still holds the soldier accountable. The AWCP guidelines are more than fair in their guidance for addressing this issue.

CPT (Join to see) - I agree, so my question is has the AWCP standards changed? I was a former training NCOIC and of course followed the AWCP when it came to the height and weight standards. On occasion we had some soldiers that were big not fat, but muscular big. Of course they still had to get a tape test to ensure they were within the standards of the AWCP. I only had to discharge one soldier for being overweight and he pretty much wanted a way out, so he used this as his way of doing so.
