I think that Buchanan may be losing it. I have long valued his opinion. Now? Not so much. His history is seriously flawed now. In the past, it was usually spot on. Nixon opened modern relations with China, not to create an ally, but rather to drive a wedge between the two great communist antagonists, China and the Soviet Union. He knew that the border dispute between them could be fatal to a united communist front, and he was correct. Sadly, the fools in the District of Calamity didn't realize that the same strategy could have been used in reverse. They should have worked on improved relations with Russia instead of antagonizing them. Now, Putin uses US as the boogeyman to instill fear in Russians and solidify his hold on office. As for the trade debt with China, that merely keeps our enemy closer...
