Cheap insurance is a system backup. I use a bootable portable hard drive for everything, and a large flash drive for just my files (double backup).

Thanks for alerting us COL Mikel J. Burroughs that according to the FBI, the number of Americans being hit with ransomware malware is increasing.
I have found that IOBIT anti-Malware software has done a great job of protecting my desktop and laptop computers for over a year. The best part is that the software is free and part of the Advanced System Care software suite.

You are using the same Iobit tools I use. The Advanced System Care Suite does all things very effeciently. My favorite tool is after I uninstall a program the Uninstall pop up appears and tells you there may be remnants of that program and they will do a "strong" uninstall. I have been using the suite for over 3 years now and even if I had to buy the Suite, I would. Good stuff....

SGT Rick Ash - I am glad to learn we are both using Advanced System Care system. It was recommend to me by a elderly computer software expert who is an excellent communicator about software and OS but little else.

I have never been hit with ransom ware but every day I receive fishing emails with suspicious attachments that could very well contain ransom ware. I use Crash Plan's encrypted cloud back up service and it saved me when I had a hard drive failure. At least I would be able to say no to the ransom and be able to successfully restore my files.
Unfortunately I would guess older Veterans and seniors get hit with the stuff more often and probably have more problems discerning the fishing emails.
