I wonder how much of that number is liberals buying guns? Right after Trump was elected, there was a bump in the number of liberals buying their first-ever guns. The irony was they were doing it in fear of the Trump government, when most of them had for years been ridiculing the idea that the purpose of the 2nd Amendment was to protect the people from their own government.

More new gun owners will buy more guns. I don't have just one screwdriver, or one pair of pliers in my tool kit. Different screwdrivers and pliers for different situations. It's the same with guns.
The 9 MM pistol bought for home defense, may soon be joined by a .380 for concealed carry. New gun owners may see something interesting going on at the range --- maybe trap or skeet looks like fun. It's a big tent, lots of room for everyone in the shooting game.

I agree with you however we have seen a drop and because of supply and demand, prices have dropped as well. It is nice.
