When President Bush walked onto the arena at the winter Olympics in Salt Lake City to open the games, you could see his overcoat shaped by the armor he was wearing beneath it. Many computers are protected by systems like that. The security is added like armor. True security is only attained when it is built into the computer operating system. Still, even such security can be breached if it is not properly configured. Too often I delivered the verdict that hackers hadn't exploited a breach in the system, but rather in the way the system was administered.
