CIF is brutal to in any branch. I used being a dumb 2nd louie as a means to get through one time. Walked in the exit door and looked dumber than a spilled salt. Some kind Sargent took me under his wing and cleared. Probably spent days trying n the bar telling abut the dumb 2nd Lt. I could only get away with that once.

MSgt Stephen Council I think Father Mulcahy explained it best in M*A*S*H when he was on garbage detail. He told Hawkeye that there is a board that takes all the materiel after the war is over, and counts up all the missing and all of the surplus, then balances it out in the end. I was going to make a comment about P-38s ... but, at least for military use, I guess those went the way of the dodo bird with the advent of softpack MREs years ago. Still have one of mine though.
