This should infuriate everyone. I would hate to think that my wife or children would be on a flight and in need of help, but are denied professional medical care because a racial, religious, or any other bias of any kind (especially for gender) would cause any personnel to deny any physician the access to care for them.

Any one of us reading this could fall ill and need that lifesaving care, but could be refused that care bucause an attendant discriminates on the basis of skin, gender, religion or nationality.

I also have noticed that I am unable to find stories like these involving a male.

I for one would have had to intervene on the flight and voice my views to allow those who have the credentials to do their duties.

Thank you. We all need to be aware this happens in case someone doesn't get assistance.

Unfortunately some people are stupid and let their idea of what they think a doctor should look like get in the way of better judgement.

Okay, funny story. When I was in college i needed a tooth extracted. I ended up at a dentist's office. This guy comes in with neat long hair, black bell bottoms, lavender shirt and tie with a hold tie clasp. He introduced himself as the dentist. I said, "No way, you don't have a white smock on." Again, perceptions.
In the Air Force as a nurse anesthetist, most of my patients would cal me doc, even after i introduced myself as a nurse anesthetist. Again, perceptions. I have worked with physicians of all races, creeds, sexes, etc. It doesn't take me long in an emergency situation to determine who is a physician and if they are competent. It is a shame that flight attendants are clueless.

Agreed. My sister is a doctor. She's an anesthesiologist and I would much rather have her in an emergency over virtually anyone else I know.
