Doesn't serve them all well although there are ongoing efforts to improve.

My wife signed up with the VA 11 years ago. Perhaps it is because we go to a smaller VAMC but she has been treated fine, including requesting and getting a female doctor. Yes, it is often slow to get an appointment, but that is not unique to females only.
I think it is all a matter of which VAMC one goes to.

The VA is still a Boys only club. Its such a struggle to get anything done in support of women. To get my VA to hire female police officers was a one obstacle after another. I kept being told they couldn't hire females only. I said they could. they said no. So I went through a friend in Congress and secured a wavier that allowed them to advertise and hire female officers.
Seemed so simple that with so many female veterans that there should be female security officers especially considering the amount of sexual assault female veterans have experienced. Having a bunch of men in uniforms and carrying weapons while they are at the doctor can make their visit to the doctor a traumatic event.
