PO3 Sandra Gomke
My son said it succinctly. “It’s my turn to serve, Mom.”

I wonder how many of us can really say why we joined. Does it really matter? It seems that many of these presented in these videos found their reason after they joined. For me, enlisting was an impulse surrounded by thoughtful reasoning and hidden in an abyss of emotions and unseen forces, both internal and external. Later, while studying consumer behavior, I learned that no decision is wholly rational nor impulsive. Each is the product of both. Thus, I can honestly say, that applies in my case when I joined the military. Surprisingly, I came to another decision, to stay, and was sorely disappointed when the military said "no" and sent me on my way. Again, although I cannot describe with certainty the basis of my decision to stay, their decision to release me from active duty was gut wrenching. So, whatever the reason, it had a profound affect on me.
